IT'S RAINING ON THE SUN

Figure from NASA

Abstract

Unlike Madonna’s famous song, it’s not raining man on the Sun but Plasma.

Plasma is one of the four fundamental states of matter, like solid, liquid, and gas.

Most people see the Sun as this giant ball of gas very far away from us but the reality is slightly more complicated than this.

Someone predicted that the Plasma was falling back on the Sun like rain about 40 years ago but we didn’t have the technology to check it out - well now we do and it’s happening.

It kinda works like the water cycle on Earth - see figure 1.

The only difference is that the Plasma doesn’t change from gas to liquid, it just cools down and falls back on the surface of the Sun.

Just to put things into perspective, the droplets are the size of a country - like Ireland - and they come rushing from a height of 63,000 kilometers at a speed of 200,000 kilometers per hour.

I don’t think that an umbrella would be enough.
